A change of focus for Caramel & Parsley

A change of focus for Caramel & Parsley

November 10, 2012 by Liz Gardner

After writing hundreds of articles during the past three years, and scrapping two-thirds of them, the 100th article has been published. There have been some significant changes in our lives during this time. These changes have, through necessity, required a switch from a specific health focus on food chemicals such as MSG and its derivatives to a more general lifestyle diet and health focus which is wholesome whether you have diabetes, heart disease, cancer or would like to lose a few pounds. This was also a good time to update Caramel and Parsley’s About.

“There are many miracles in the world to be celebrated and, for me,
garlic is the most deserving.”
~ Leo Buscaglia

“This is my invariable advice to people:
Learn how to cook- try new recipes,
learn from your mistakes, be fearless,
and above all have fun!”
~ Julia Child, My Life in France

Embrace Change

A necessary major lifestyle change was to check and re-examine the implications of living with cancer as it affects every area of our lives. You will have noted a shift in several articles recently about diet which hopefully will have been of some help. So much is written about building up and strengthening our immune systems, especially as we add a few more years on the body tachometer. Another important health reason to consider is how to reduce stress in our lives. Genetics ~ well, there is not a lot we can do about that.

Organic versus Chemicals

Chemical free living, especially as it pertains to “organic” vegetable gardening and making toxic free food choices, cooking “from scratch” are still major areas of interest. Now we have a grandchild, we have a greater awareness of the larger environmental issues our world faces. These areas are irrevocably connected.  Read article on DDT and the effect on our global environment today.

Travel, People, Places & Fun

The third area of change in focus is when I find a place or business of interest (for any number of reasons!) during our day-to-day lives and travels, or people ask for recommendations on a certain subject. For example many people ask where we buy our organic fruit and vegetables (farmers markets) while many others were interested in organic  blueberries, etc.

The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly,
and lie about your age.
~ Lucille Ball

It has been a joy and a privilege to be able to express myself on topics which five years ago I knew little about and for some there seems no end.  It has been an extensive learning curve from technology to health issues and much more!  As I said in “About”  a heartfelt thank you goes out to my family and friends, for their encouragement, support and love.

Thank you also for taking your time to read my posts.

“Be yourself. No one can say you’re doing it wrong. – Snoopy”
~ Charles M. Schulz
