There are lots of reasons to start a vegetable garden. On a very cold winter's Day as I was watching the strong winds blowing the debris around the yard, my thoughts turned to gardening. This is called  "Gardner's" Logic. I thought of the coming Spring and started to ponder and plan the Vegetable Garden. There is so much enjoyment in gardening as well as the bonus of eating deliciously healthy food, preserving and sharing. Here are many ideas why NOW just may be the year & time for you to start a vegetable gardening:

Strawberries ~ I know they are a fruit but very easy to grow

#1 -12 Reasons to Grow your Own Food

Many people I speak to about vegetable gardening feel there is a large amount of work involved. The best plan I have found is to start one small step at a time. Rest assured - a vegetable garden, is always a work in progress but the benefits make it worthwhile. Here are a few reasons to grow your own food and another reason from Jamie Oliver:

"I wish for everyone to help create a strong, sustainable movement
to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again
and empower people everywhere to fight obesity"

#2 - More Ideas on Growing your own Food

Starting a garden and growing your own food is a never-ending subject. There are always new plants to grow, fruit plants or trees to try, garden beds to re-arrange. Take time to sit and "smell the roses", watch the birds and have a cuppa ...

    Kale transplants
    Radish - sweet & juicy
    Winter Squash
    Swiss Chard
Garlic - try to faithfully plan each Fall (October here)

#3 - 5 more Reasons to Grow your own Vegetables

There are many unseen benefits to gardening such as : improved health, exercise, relaxation, being outside, fresh air, appreciating your surroundings, birds or animal wildlife near your home. A major benefit is preserving and sharing your food with others. This could be the year to start a vegetable garden and here's a brief "how to" begin your veggie garden this year.

“The shorter the chain between raw food and fork,
    the fresher it is
and the more transparent the system is.”
    ~  Joel Salatin
