A guest article to celebrate Christmas ...
One Person's Story
My heart ached for a hope that would last ...
As a child from a broken family I eagerly waited for December, when my mother dragged the Christmas Box from our humid attic and unpacked the mysteries of the holiday. Colored lights. Glistening ornaments. Handmade treasures. Our family gather to decorate our Christmas tree, bringing a glow of excitement and hope to our bedraggled little home.
Then came the wait. The ticking off of dates on the calendar up to December 25 when at last, we could open the shiny-wrapped presents. Every December, my hope-starved little soul waited in expectation. Even as a child, I sensed something beyond and better in the celebration.
People can't live without hope. God knows this. My heart ached for a hope that would last. As a teenager, I found that hope in a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus.
In Romans 15:15 Paul issued a benediction for believers, he wrote, [ ... ]"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Paul wrote of hope as waiting in expectation with absolute conviction of receiving what we are waiting for. He spoke of joy as an experience of gladness, and peace as a state of freedom from inner turmoil. To experience such overflowing abundance, Paul pointed to trust as a sense of complete reliance.
What is your heart eagerly waiting for? [ ... ]
God gave His Son that we might unwrap the hope of Christmas every day.
