The Caramel and Parsley article on top tweets in 2017 was a favourite blog article so here is a repeat exercise for 2018. After a great 2017 on social media it was amazing that January 2018 started out with such a "block buster" tweet from Dr John Yudkin's book "Pure White & Deadly", 1986. All in all it turned out to be a most unusual" year of tweets. All quotes are from Dr. Yudkin's book.

"There is no physiological requirement for sugar : all humans nutritional needs can be met in full without having to take a single spoon of ... sugar"

Top Tweets - Year in Review

    January

Dr. John Yudkin ~ the man who tried to warn us about sugar. In less than 24 hours on a cold winters day this tweet about Dr. John Yudkin became @CaramelParsley all time Top Tweet. What a start to 2018!

    February

The two following tweets gathered a large amount of interest:
    • "Forget Vampires - Garlic Could Kill Cancer"
    • Half way through the month  a video by Dr. Robert Lustig, Endocrinologist "Are all calories the same". This hit the top of the list and stayed there for the rest of the month.

    March

The most popular tweet by far was another quote from "Pure White & Deadly" by Dr. John Yudkin :

"As for sugar the most relevant fact is every one of the abnormalities of coronary heart disease & diabetes can be produced by sugar in the diet"

    April

#1 popular tweet was "Coffee has 100's of molecules many of which have anticancer properties"  - Dr. A. Atanasov

    May

Continuing the high interest in health, diet and nutrition the most interesting tweet was "Treat Sugar Like Tobacco" @ DrAseemMalhotra

    June

An interview with Dr. Malhotra on the UK healthcare system was top in June

    July

This month the two top tweets were again from Dr. Malhotra and Good Health ... also was #1 in August:
    • Good Health Doesn't Come Out of a Medicine Bottle, and,
    • It is Time to Bust the Myth of Physical Inactivity & Obesity

    August

The top tweet was "Turning Plastic Pollution in the Oceans into sneakers" - a super article on recycling and #2 was "The Unhealthiest meals in America"

    September

A surprise top tweet was "Industrial strength pesticides available on eBay to amateur gardeners" (glyphosate)

    October

The month of October was spent in Australia, with very irregular tweeting and it was the craziest, busiest tweet month ever - both for total and personal tweet interest. The articles were both health related involving cancer: #1 "Australia to be 1st country to eliminate Cervical Cancer" and #2 "New wristband warns when you've been in the sun too long"

    November

Health continues to be a top interest in November. The second top Tweet was  "Genetic link between obesity and depression uncovered"  - the top tweet was "What are the best ways to improve your memory according to science" but the link was no longer available. These were both mega tweets for CAP. Here is the research study link on obesity and depression.

    December

During this month of "short" days the top tweet was once again a health video from Dr. Robert Lustig "A Calorie is Not a Calorie"

Wow! That's it for another year on Twitter. Overall it is obvious that personal and global health issues continue to be a major issue for millions of people worldwide.  From the disastrous global fires and other environment and weather related disasters in BC and elsewhere, it is clear that Climate Change will continue to dominate the world news in 2019.  Thanks for your continuing interest in my Caramel & Parsley Twitter. It's been a sensational year.

With kindest regards and Best Wishes for a fabulous 2019 ~ Liz
